World Day of Prayer

The World Day of Prayer will be held at the

Beenleigh Baptist Church,

Pheasant Ave,

Beenleigh on the 6 March at 10.00am.

Linen Roster

There is a new linen roster at the back of St Mark’s. If you are able, can you please add your name to the roster to do the linen for a month. It’s not an arduous task, just put the linen in a soaker such as Vanish, then rinse it out and iron it. If you are unsure how to iron the different pieces, please just ask me.

Hi folks

Hi folks,

This week we remember Jesus’ presentation and dedication in the Temple (Luke 2:22-40). This was very Jewish, the personal application of the covenant between God and Israel to Jesus and Mary’s declaration of ‘clean’ after giving birth. This happened in the Temple, with sacrifices. And then two prophets spoke to Jesus and to Mary. Simeon said that Jesus would cause the ‘fall and rise of many’, and then told Mary that she would be stabbed in the heart (presumably what it felt like for her to watch Jesus die).

This weekend Bishop John will confirm six people at St Mark’s. This will be their dedication to love and serve God.

The same thing happens to all of us when we meet for worship. We are loved by God, spoken to, we make our promise to God again and we go out to take up our cross.

Wow…

Hi folks

Hi folks,

This week we read Jesus’ mission statement (Luke 4:14-21). At the start of his ministry, he stood up in his home town synagogue and announced that he had come to bring good news to the poor, and a time of release from debt. That’s what he did in the rest of Luke as he taught and healed people. It’s a good week to read this passage! This Sunday is Australia Day. You will be aware that some people celebrate the day as the date when the first fleet landed in Sydney and started Australia, and some people mourn it as the day country was invaded and dis-possession started. Or it could be both. Our call is to follow Jesus. He gave all people their dignity. We have been made God’s children, that is a good thing to be. We are called to give people their dignity. He freed people, so they could follow him. There are lots of things that bind people today, including our history. We are called to deal with that. So, good news today. I am always happy to have a chat,

Geoff
